A recent video clip of Donald Trump at a press conference has reignited public concerns about his cognitive health. In the footage, the former president criticized Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell—apparently forgetting that he was the one who appointed Powell in 2018.
Speaking from the Oval Office earlier this week, Trump targeted both President Joe Biden and Powell. He blamed Powell for ongoing economic challenges, stating:

“I think [Powell] is doing a terrible job… I’m surprised he was appointed. I was surprised, frankly, that Joe Biden put him in and extended him.”

Social media users quickly pointed out the irony: Trump appointed Powell during his own presidency. While Biden renewed Powell’s term, the original nomination came from Trump.
The video spread rapidly online. Many viewers speculated that Trump realized the mistake mid-sentence and tried to shift blame to Biden.

“He can’t even remember appointing the Fed Chair—yet we’re supposed to trust him with nuclear codes?”
