Most Americans Still Back Top Trump, GOP Priorities: Border and Economy

Republicans have regained a clear advantage over Democrats on the two issues voters care about most: the economy (R+8) and inflation (R+6), according to the latest polling.

Just last month, amid heightened tariff tensions, a Napolitan News Survey showed Democrats closing the gap—pulling even with Republicans on the economy (R+1) and even leading slightly on inflation (D+4). But this month’s numbers mark a return to the broader trend seen earlier in the year, when Republicans held double-digit leads on both issues (R+10 on the economy in January and February; R+11 and R+9 on inflation in February and January, respectively), the Napolitan News Service reported.

The rebound in Republican trust appears tied to positive voter response to President Donald Trump’s recent trade deal with China and rising economic optimism. Inflation (29%) and the economy (25%) continue to rank as the top issues for voters.

Immigration and health care are tied as the third most important issues, each named by 12% of voters. Republicans hold a commanding lead on immigration (R+16), while Democrats are more trusted on health care (D+12).

Overall, on the issue voters care most about, 42% trust Republicans more, 41% trust Democrats, 6% trust both equally, and 10% trust neither, the news service noted.

Regarding immigration enforcement, which includes mass deportations, Trump has called on the U.S. Supreme Court to “put an END to the quagmire that has been caused by the Radical Left,” after a Biden-appointed federal judge blocked the deportation of illegal immigrants to South Sudan.

The president, along with members of his administration, erupted in frustration after Judge Brian Murphy, nominated by President Biden to the U.S. District Court in Massachusetts, halted the flight, claiming it “unquestionably” violated one of his earlier rulings.

Back in April, Murphy ruled that deportable aliens must be given a chance to argue that their safety would be at risk if removed to a country other than their home nation. That decision already blocked flights to Libya earlier this month—and now it’s been extended to South Sudan.

In an emergency hearing, Murphy declared that the eight illegal immigrants aboard the plane—each convicted of violent crimes—were not granted a meaningful opportunity to object, even as they were being flown to a war-torn nation.

In a court filing, the Justice Department, as noted by Deputy White House Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, disagreed and pointed out that each deported individual had already received due process.

“A local city judge in Boston has halted the deportation of 8 convicted and ultra-violent illegal alien murderers and child predators and forced ICE officers to live with them full time — without secure housing — while the Boston judge tries to fly them back to America,” Miller posted on X along with screenshots of the DOJ rebuttal.

Murphy further ordered that the illegal immigrants aboard the plane—now reportedly grounded at a U.S. military base in Djibouti—must receive at least 72 hours’ notice before undergoing “credible fear screenings.” He also ruled they must be granted 15 days to reopen their immigration cases if they can establish a “credible fear” of persecution.

“A Federal Judge in Boston, who knew absolutely nothing about the situation, or anything else, has ordered that EIGHT of the most violent criminals on Earth curtail their journey to South Sudan, and instead remain in Djibouti,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform Thursday. “He would not allow these monsters to proceed to their final destination.”
