Sen. J.D. Vance gave back better than he got from CNN host Dana Bash during a fiery interview on Sunday, never hesitating to voice his opinion about his rival, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, as well as his running mate, Vice President Kamala Harris.
“We’re running against a set of policies that I think have failed the American people,” former President Donald Trump’s running mate told Bash early in the interview. “President Trump delivered lower prices, lower inflation, a prosperous and peaceful world, and also a secure border, and Kamala Harris’s policies have produced the exact opposite.”
As the interview went on, Bash confronted Vance about his depiction of the Democrats, especially his use of the term “weird” to describe Walz’s behavior. Vance defended his choice of words by referencing the instance when Walz gave his wife a “nice firm Midwestern handshake” rather than a more affectionate gesture during his VP announcement, suggesting this was reflective of the Democrats’ unease with their policies.
“So I think that what it is, is two people, Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, who aren’t comfortable in their own skin because they aren’t comfortable with their policy positions for the American people. And so their name calling, instead of actually telling the American people how they’re going to make their lives better. I think that’s weird, Dana, but look, they can call me whatever they want to,” Vance said, noting that his Democratic rivals have also used that term to describe him.
Vance also hit Walz over his stolen valor claims.
“He’s a veteran of a war nodding along in agreement instead of saying, ‘No, no, no, I did serve my country, and I did it honorably, but I never went to a war zone.’ I’m not criticizing Tim Walz’s service,” Vance said. “I’m criticizing the fact that he lied about his service for political gain, Dana. Now I served in the United States Marine Corps and you know this. And look, there are a lot of things that I’m proud about.”
“He knew he was going to Iraq,” Vance said. “He decided to quit — to retire; whatever word you want to use … because he wanted to run for Congress. He lied about that. He said that when he decided to retire, he did not know he was going to Iraq. That is another untruth, as even his senior military officer said.” He added: “The truth is that Tim Walz didn’t tell the truth, and importantly, Dana, this is about Kamala Harris’ judgment.”
There has been concern among Republicans after President Joe Biden was replaced by Harris at the top of the Democrat ticket, but the Republican nominee says there is no need to worry.
At his rally in Bozeman, Montana, Trump said that he believes Harris will be even easier to defeat than Biden would have been, The Washington Examiner reported.
“You know, they took it away from him. They really did. They took it away — the guy had 14 million votes. She had none. But I’d rather run against her. I think she’s easier to beat, I really do,” the former president said.
He went on to mock the vice president’s name, claiming that there was more than one way to pronounce it.
“You know she’s got about nine different ways of pronouncing that name. And because the press is so dishonest, no matter how you say it, they’ll say you were wrong. You were wrong. I don’t care if I get it right, actually, I couldn’t care less,” he said.

At one point during the rally, Trump also played a supercut video of Harris revealing, in her own words, her far-left policy agenda.
