Maryanne was appointed to the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey by President Ronald Reagan in 1983, and later appointed to the Court of Appeals in 1999 by President Bill Clinton.

In recent years, Maryanne faced an investigation into alleged fraudulent tax and financial transactions involving her father and siblings. The investigation ultimately came to an inconclusive end, leading to Maryanne’s decision to retire.
